Between June and late november the whales come to our shores to mate and calf. Witsand is known for being the whale nursery of South Africa.

Ostrich Eco 4x4 Trail
About five years ago Piet Uys decided to share the trail with 4x4 enthusiasts and opened it to the public.
The route is driven clockwise and offers many exciting challenges, like various river crossings, steep ascents, descents, over rocks as well as a test of your mud driving skills.
Normally 4x4 trails lead high up into mountains but here you will experience something very different.

Fishing
Estuary fishing in the Breede River is recognised as the best in SA. The Breede River mouth is regarded as one of South Africa's top fishing locations. The upper reaches of the river are renowned for its bass, while the lower reaches are a Cob fisherman's paradise - Cob exceeding 50kg in weight are regularly caught in the river. The rock angler will also have good catches along the coastline
Westfield 4x4 Dune and Fynbos Routes
Westfield Holiday Farm is the ideal breakaway where one can enjoy the sunshine of the lovely temperate South Coast, where one can stroll across the sand dunes and revel in the variety of birds and Fynbos on display.
Westfield has a 4x4 Nature Trail for quads and 4x4's. For the adventurous they have a 4x4 and quad trail on the sanddunes of the farm close to the sea. There is a guide to escort you onto the dunes for a very excitng challenge.

Horse Trails along the beach and river!
The unique combination of bush, river and beach come together to offer you an unforgettable ride.
Experienced guided trails twice daily along the beach and fynbos route. The trail takes about two hours to complete, leading through beautiful fynbos coastal vegetation, towards the Breede river with breathtaking views. Riders can canter their mounts in the shallows or have an exhilarating gallop on the sand.
The trail provides magnificent views of the area and affords ample opportunity to spot a variety of bird species, tortoises, bushbuck, plant and marine life. Imagine whale watching from horseback!
